What I wished for, what I got.
Wednesday, September 02, 2015Last year I wrote a wish list of all the things I wanted to do before my next birthday, which was last weekend, so it's time to fess up on what I did, and didn't, tick off the list.
De-clutter and get organised
Not a very exciting one to start off with but you know how people go on about how satisfying de-cluttering is? Well, it's true, it really is the best feeling. This is definitely going to be an on-going project.
I got rid of a truck load of stuff at a car boot sale, that I'd been gathering together for months, that I just didn't need, and no longer had any use for. Now I just need to keep the momentum going.
Take a course and learn a new skill
I was taught how to use our ride on lawn mower but I don't think that counts.
After a very brief introduction to felting, I've decided that I'd like to learn the basics, but I need to find a course, preferably local. I've had a tip off so I'll be investigating soon...
I'm also going to be having a go at Scuba Diving. I had no idea that we had a diving centre in Ipswich, but thanks to Groupon I'll be trying my hand and hoping I don't drown.
Spend a night under the stars and watch the sun come up
I haven't done this but I am going to! In October I'll be spending a few nights sleeping under the stars in the Sahara (this isn't the first time I've mentioned this and I'm sorry to say it won't be the last). I don't know if I'll be able to stay awake and watch the sun come up but I can always cheat and set an alarm to see it.
Find an excuse to wear my KG Mary Janes.
I decided to take these on our honeymoon and wear them every night. I made sure that I packed dresses that would work with them and I took no other heels with me.
In the end I wore them once, on our last night. I only walked from our room to the hotel terrace and my feet were killing me! I'm not sure if I'll be wearing them again, but I'm not sure I can part with them either.
Go to Latitude
Done. It was awesome.
Finish my patchwork quilt by March 2015
Nope. I blame the wedding. I extended the deadline to September 1st.
And I failed to meet that deadline too. I'm making progress, slowly but surely. I think I'll give up on the deadlines and just be satisfied for it to be done when it's done.
Look forward to a 5k run
Ha! I still go out and plod about occasionally but my heart really isn't in it. I'm doing it because I think I should rather than because I'm actually enjoying it.
Decorate our bedroom
Nope, but it's on the list. Still. I'm currently dithering on what colour to paint the walls, I was set on grey but I'm wavering.
Go to a live music gig
Andy and I went to see Ward Thomas and The Shires in November and we enjoyed it so much we saw Ward Thomas again in March - our last date as an unmarried couple.
We also went to see the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Hall in January. I'd never seen a large band like this play and it was amazing.
And of course there's all the bands I saw at Latitude.
I felt the urge to knit and even though I'd banned myself from starting any new projects until I'd finished my quilt, I caved and made Monkey Moo.
Leave the country
We spent our honeymoon in Zurich, with a night in Paris on the way home.
Read 12 more books
1, 2 & 3 - The Divergent Series (3 books)
4, 5 & 6 - Were read for Alex's A Blogging Good Read in April. A Cup of Tea by Amy Ephron, Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller, and Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett
7 - The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. It took me forever to read this book, it was a real slog and probably not worth the effort.
8 - Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. I enjoyed this, despite it being dark and not very happy, but it got me back into my reading groove again.
9 - The Sunrise by Victoria Hislop. I got really engrossed in this and it made me want to read everything she's written. I'm currently reading one of her other books - The Return.
I didn't read 12 but I'm happy with nine (and a very little bit) as I had a serious reading slump somewhere in the middle.
So now I just have to figure out what I want the next year to hold. What would you like to do in the next twelve months?

Oh goodness, I always read these lists of goals with awe because I really struggle to put together the list of things I want to do in the first place. I suppose mine should be to stop putting off the big decisions and make a choice about work, houses etc.
ReplyDeleteI can always think of nice things to do, it's the things I ought to be doing that I struggle with. But yes, the big decisions should be on the list, definitely.
DeleteYou really did do well! I'm very impressed.
ReplyDeleteAren't your KG's GORGEOUS! Such a pity they hurt! That felt bead is really pretty!
Hurrah for the London Symphony Orchestra- they are the best UK Orchestra in my opinion but I have a close affinity with them because of my LSO teacher's course- I'm taking my kids to watch them in a month!x
I guess I did do pretty well, as usual I was only seeing the things that I didn't do!
DeleteI think I'm going to have to part with the KGs, I wait until next spring and pop them on eBay, they hurt SO much!
I was blown away by LSO, I've never heard anything like it in my life, I could feel it in my bones. Your kids will love it! I would've loved to have seen something like that when I was at school!
Thank you for taking the time to comment x
