How To Wear Coloured Jeans

Friday, May 27, 2011

I'd been hankering after a pair of brightly coloured jeans recently. Although, once upon a time they would have been a complete no-no but these trends have a way of getting in under your skin.

Further inspired by outfit posts from Hi Fashion, A Little Bird Told Me and Wearing It Today, to name but a few, I set about finding the perfect pair for me.

I knew I wanted a red, pink or coral colour and knew as soon as I saw this pair from Dorothy Perkins - cropped, coral and gorgeous - that I'd found my jeans.

I searched for further inspiration...

SJP looks fab (when doesn't she) but I think this is too candy coloured for me. Kylie's choice of casual t-shirt and scarf is far nearer to something I would wear (I do like a scarf) but Cameron's neutral outfit is damn near perfect and by far my favourite look. Emmy's look - black accessories and neutral top - is classic and simple, which makes it an excellent go-to outfit.  Plenty of food for thought...

After my recent wardrobe challenge I decided that a new purchase could only be allowed if I could create at least three different outfits with existing items from my wardrobe.

And here they are, plus a few more...

From left to right;

- A white summer weight top - easy to wear and very summery but I did on occasion look down and think 'Woah! Colour!'... but I soon got used to seeing colour wear denim can normally be found.

- A breton top was a no-brainer for me, I think this top goes with everything! I missed a trick here though as I have a fab statement necklace that would have looked super.

- Dorothy Perkins cardigan, tee and jeans. This was my copy-cat of Cameron's neutral outfit, adding some strappy heeled sandals would instantly take this look from casual to polished.

- A structured jacket and heels for an evening outfit - just add a statement ring and cute clutch...

My favourite? My new jeans teamed with a navy asymmetric hem jumper with 3/4 length sleeves, that is just the right amount of slouchy. Socks clearly approves.

Are you wearing coloured jeans this summer? What do you /would you wear them with?
