Who Gives A Crap?
Tuesday, July 16, 2019
A few days ago I convinced my husband to spend £160 on toilet paper.
"Has this got something to do with reducing plastic?" he asked.
"Yes"
"Gimme numbers" he said "don't come at me with a half baked idea"
"Well, the one we have now costs 17p per 100 sheets, if we buy in bulk this one is 13.5p per 100 sheets, it's recycled and has no plastic packaging, it has over 4,000 five star reviews, and 50% of profits go to non-profits to build toilets and stuff"
*short pause*
"OK, get them ordered" he replied.
That was somewhat easier than I expected.
You can read a more eloquent explanation about the 'toilets and stuff' here. The company I'm speaking of is Who Give A Crap - a most excellent name - and now I can go back to not giving toilet paper a second thought, which is exactly how it should be.

I've not yet switched toilet paper... I'm put off Who Gives a Crap because when I looked it was very expensive (though I wasn't looking at a bulk order!) and was considering Greencane (I think that was the name of the company) but wasn't sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of Who Gives a Crap? Is is good quality?
I assumed it would be a lot more expensive, but as you read, if ordering in bulk, it's not.
DeleteWe were using Sainsburys recycled toilet paper, and the Who Gives A Crap paper is nicer, it's slightly softer and feels better quality - stronger.
It's not Andrex super quilted, aloe infused quality but then I didn't ever buy that anyway! It does what it's supposed to do.

Who Gives A Crap popped up in my feed ages ago, it seems like a brilliant deal and my, don't they look pretty? xxx
ReplyDeletethey are pretty! I've been pondering it for a while, it was the fact that it has no plastic packaging that sealed the deal. I have no idea why all other manufacturers insist on wrapping it in plastic.

Good on you, Hazel! I must admit that I had a good chuckle when I saw your post pop up in my blog roll. What a great name! If it's sustainable, works out cheaper than your usual paper and you're satisfied with the quality, then it certainly is a winner! One question: is it actually packed as colourfully as on your photograph? xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it raised a smile. It is that colourful yes, I'm keeping the wrapping to see if I can reuse it in anyway. So far I've thought of shredding it to make pretty parcel stuffing, but I'm sure there are loads of things that can be done with it.
DeleteNow I just need to sort out my cupboard under the stairs so that I can store it.

I have been thinking about switching to this brand for quite a while but struggling with the thought of the inital outlay. As it is plastic free July, I think I am going to go for it for one order to see how long they last!
ReplyDeleteI think they'll last as long as any other brand, if not longer as they have more on a roll. In comparison to the ones I was using it works out cheaper because of the bulk order.

In response to your response to Ann, my Mum used her "Who gives a crap" paper to wrap my birthday presents in!
ReplyDeleteJust out of interest, how many rolls did you buy? I wanted to buy this but my Mum didn't really like it so I didn't go with it. I didn't want to go for Greencane because I was worried about the shipping miles. IN the end I bought 10 packs of four rolls of Ecoleaf because it is recycled and the packaging is compostable. But I'd b intrigued to try these. Hey, if we meet at all this Summer, we could swap a loo roll and try each others!!
I like the birthday present idea!
DeleteI bought five boxes which is 240 rolls, I think. It'll last a while! In comparison to the one I was using it's about the same in terms of quality. I've noticed that one side seems softer than the other, which is a little odd, but I have no complaints. It does exactly what it's supposed to do!
Let's meet up this summer, definitely!
