The Summer of Wearing It All | Part 2

Friday, July 19, 2019

Having full rein of my wardrobe after a few years of utilising capsule wardrobes is actually really rather nice. After the first few days of the Slow Fashion Season I decided to put together a series of outfits containing at least one item of clothing that rarely gets worn.

Everything below, with the exception of the skinny jeans, has either never been worn, or has only been worn a few times. The first outfit is made up of entirely second hand items (with the exception of my under garments), and every outfit has at least one secondhand element.

The weather hasn't been as glorious as I'd hoped for. I was fully expecting this summer to be the same as last year with day after day of beautiful sunshine. But as you can see I've had need of a jumper or a jacket on occasion. The weather hasn't been awful, it's been warm enough, but overcast and a bit breezy. I'm going to need some more shorts weather if I'm going to succeed and wear as much of my wardrobe as possible.

As for making no high street purchases, I was in town and noticed a sale in Accessorize, I spotted a straw bag similar to one I've been looking for. I was in the door, admiring the bag and checking the price tag (£7.00) before I remembered the challenge. I put it back on the rail and left, wondering how many more times I'd temporarily forget signing up to Slow Fashion Season before the three months was up. It would've been so easy to forget and make a purchase, and I would've been so annoyed with myself. At some point in the future a similar bag will turn up in a charity shop and I'll buy it then.

Are you taking part? How are you getting on?

I've got a fun series of outfits planned for the next installment, (well I think it's fun anyway...)

  1. lots of lovely outfits there, all very flexible and inter-changeable. I guess at the end of the Summer the charity shops will have plenty of straw bags!

  2. First of all, well done on not giving in to temptation at Accessorize! I'm getting along just fine, but although I've been giving the sales in the High Street the finger so to speak, I've made quite a few second hand buys. I know these don't count, but I'm still annoyed at myself as most of them are the result of the second hand version of retail therapy. I love it that you're embracing your whole wardrobe and have been wearing things that have hardly been worn. I particularly love the dress you're wearing in the last photo! xxx

    1. Having my whole wardrobe is rather nice. The dress in the last photo is a very recent purchase, I kept putting it back on the rail but couldn't leave the shop without it!

  3. Yes I am doing no new clothes for a year. I do sometimes have to remind myself but it is just a habit that needs breaking. I keep asking myself, do I really need this. Almost always the answer is no. Lots of lovely outfits here, especially loving the skirts.

    1. No new clothes for a year sound like a challenge! I don't buy much new but there are a few things that I feel have been necessary. The need vs want question is always an issue for me, I rarely need anything but I find it so hard not to give in the want, this is where secondhand shopping is my saviour, but I'd still like to buy less overall.

  4. I've had the same problem with going into a shop and looking at something and then almost buying it!! I DID, however, buy 3 items in an East Finchley charity shop yesterday! All lovely items.
I really like your outfits. What is the navy blue trousery garment in the second outfit- is it a jumpsuit or culottes or trousers? I really like the look of it and am wondering which of the above it is!

    1. It's just second nature almost, to buy what we see and want. But well done for resisting!
The navy blue garment is a jumpsuit, purchased back in April from ASOS - the month when I bought all the clothes! - it's so nice to wear, so cool and comfortable.

  5. What gorgeous outfits! What a great idea to challenge yourself to wear all your unworn clobber, I'm amazed some of those lovely things hadn't seen the light of day before now.
Well done on resisting the temptation of the Accessorize basket. I found myself drooling over a different brand of Swedish clogs earlier but had a word with myself - do I really need a seventh pair?!
Maybe you could post a photo of it and we could all scour our local chazzas for something similar? xxx

    1. Thank you Vix! It is awful that these things don't get worn as much as they deserve. I vow to remedy that.
You probably don't need a 7th pair of clogs, but when has need ever come into it? Well done for resisting though.
Good idea on the basket, I might put out a plea on Instagram.
