A list of things for winter
Wednesday, January 23, 2019
It seems a little late in the season to be sharing this list now, but it's been written for a while, I've just been posting other things.
I find the new year to be the perfect time to hunker down at home, get stuff sorted, clean the slate for the year ahead, as well as cosying up with a good book, some knitting or such. And after the Christmas period I always feel the need to be kind to myself and my over indulged body.
Everything on this list taps into my word of the year - Better.
Sort the bedroom after redecorating
Aim: Declutter
I moved everything out of the room before I started sanding, painting and glossing, and I promised myself that nothing would go back into the room without being considered. No clutter or pointless item would be put back, nothing that I don't love or don't use.
When, and only when, the bedroom is finished, complete little DIY tasks in the downstairs toilet
Aim: Focus on one thing at a time
I have a list of small DIY tasks for each room, in previous years I've bumbled around from room to room doing a little bit here and there, but this has left me feeling that no room is finished, that we've haven't made progress, even though we have. So my new plan is to go room to room, do what needs to be done, and then move onto the next one.
Get listing on ebay, at least 3 items a week
Aim: Declutter
The pile I have of things to go on ebay is verging on the ridiculous, if I can do at least 3 listings per week it'll be a start, and maybe seeing the pile diminish, and my earnings grow, will inspire me to list more.
Start and finish the embroidery kit I purchased months ago
Aim: Focus on one thing at a time
I think I've had this kit for six months already...
Do a 30 day yoga challenge
Aim: Take better care of myself
The last half of 2018 I got into the habit of doing at least ten minutes of yoga everyday, and I felt better for it. I stopped over the festive period and haven't found the motivation to start again.
Mend my green skirt so I can add it to my spring capsule
Aim: Reduce the mend pile
The zip broke, and now the skirt won't stay up without six safety pins. It's such a faff to get it on and off I just haven't bothered wearing it.
Design a new logo and website for work in time for the new financial year
Aim: Stop faffing
This is something I've been meaning to do since I got married almost four years ago. It's time.

I'm the same as you about listing items on Ebay, I've got a box of stuff that I've been meaning to get round to listing for ages. I've got a list of drawers and cupboards that I want to get sorted out too, I'm sure I'll find more items in there that can also go on Ebay.
ReplyDeleteI keep finding more tings as I go... maybe we could spur each other on? Have a race to see who can get 10 items on ebay first...?

Although I don't consider books "clutter", they can get overwhelming. I have one bookshelf with three shelves and I had so many books already on ir that I had to start piling books on top of books! I went through all of them and chose the ones I thought I could get rid of and I brought them to a book drop. That has been one of the only things I've done so far this year as far as "decluttering". I know! It's not enough. I need motivation! And I do the same thing as you - start something in one room and then never finish the whole room. What's up with that? Arlene from NJ
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to let go of books. I try to take them to charity shops when I'm done but the majority of them remain on my shelves. Clothes are another thing I find hard to get rid of, I know I should donate them but I always think 'maybe I'll need it one day'. My husband is a hoarder so that doens't help either!
DeleteI'm glad I['m not the only one who flits from room to room, that does make me feel better :)

I love writing lists, and rewriting them! mine has lots of decorating tasks - I am gradually getting them done. So satisfying to tick them off. Like your green skirt, I have a favourite (blue baby cord) which gets really worn out - I dye it navy once a year to freshen it up.
ReplyDeleteNothing compares to ticking something off a list, especially if it's been on there a while!
DeleteI have a yellow one I've dyed to freshen up, so much better than buying another (which never matches up to the greatness of the original!).

I am always flitting from room to room, doing this and that, which means that after 20 years at Dove Cottage only one room is fully finished! And nothing very much is getting done this month due to work issues and stuff. I'm waiting for it all to pass so that I can get on with a couple of things! Hope you'll be able to strike off as many things from your list as possible! xxx
ReplyDeleteSlow and steady are the key words here. As long as I keep making some sort of progress it'll all get done. My friend told me years ago to do one room at a time, did I listen? Nope!
DeleteHope you get some time to yourself soon

I find when I start cleaning I absolutely hate it if I haven't got at least one area completely clean and tidy. It feels like nothing was achieved even though hours were ploughed in.That final round up of getting things finished is everything. Plus I find it incredibly hard to de-clutter.
ReplyDeleteIt's so frustrating that nothing ever seems properly finished. And even when you get one bit done, it's not long before it needs doing again... *sigh*
DeleteI seem to be being ruthless with my decluttering at the moment. I have several bags to be donated already and lots for ebay... I just need to get it all on ebay now!

We did our whole house one room at a time! I need the sense of accomplishment I think, having lots of part finished rooms would have driven me mad!
ReplyDeleteThe same things have been on my list for months and months and months... sort out the pile of pictures, buy frames and get them on walls... carry on my long term job of sorting the photo archives (a bit of digital tidying) and various other things like that... the trouble is, more pressing jobs pop up week to week, or more interesting ones, and so jobs I fully intend to get around too (I write them on my new list every week!) get pushed back each week and never get ticked off... Stop Faffing is one of my goals, so much time is wasted faffing!
I wish we'd started by doing one room at a time...
DeleteI hate faffing, but I find, just like you, other things come up. So I'm trying to do a bit of decluttering each day, eventually it'll get done. It's not ideal but waiting until I have the time obviously isn't working. After all this time it's satisfying just to see some progress.

There's still plenty o'time - two months at least haha!

I know, it just felt a little late to be posting it, even though I've started to tick some off already!
