Winter Capsule 2018

Friday, December 29, 2017

I wanted lots of colour to see me through the cold months of the year, however this didn't stop me from adding two navy jumpers, and a couple of beige items to this capsule. A girl's gotta have some staples, right?

This time around I've got fewer items than I normally have. Having looked back over all my other capsules I realised I always had a number of items that either didn't get worn or were only worn a few times. My very first capsule had 37 times, I'm now down to 30 and I'm confident that this is plenty.

This year I'm going to keep a tally of how often I wear everything in my capsule. I've become interested in this since finding out about the #30Wears campaign. The idea is we can save a lot from landfill, and reduce the demand for new items of clothing if we just wear our clothes for a little longer.

I have no idea how often I wear things, do I ever wear items more than 30 times? And if so, which items? How long does it take to wear something 30 times? I think it'll be interesting to find out.

  1. I bet you can guess my four favourites from your collage! Green and pink worn together just shout Bollywood to me.
I wonder how many of my clothes have been worn over 30 times before I bought them? Quite a few, I reckon! xxx

    1. Could they be pink, green, and stripy? :)
Yours is the greenest wardrobe! Wouldn't it be great to know the history of each item of clothing? I often wonder about my charity purchases - who bought it? where was it worn? how did they style it? But the stories from your vintage pieces would be far more interesting!

  2. I'm with Vix on pink and green worn together, although I wasn't thinking of Bollywood! I do love the experiment of keeping tabs on how many times an item of clothing is worn, and I'm looking forward to hearing about the result come Spring! xxx

    1. It's certainly a combination that's begging to be tried in this capsule. I wouldn't have thought of Bollywood but I can see it.
I know I'll wear some items a lot more than others but the idea really interests me. It makes sense doesn't it, that the more we wear our clothes the less we'll buy in the long run.

  3. You've made me wonder how many times I wear my clothes too and so I'm going to keep a list too of everything I wear and how many times I wear them! Thanks for inspiring me!

    1. The floral blouse doesn't get the wear it deserves.
If you fancy giving it a go I'd suggest picking out your favourite items and spend a few weeks finding your favourite outfit combinations for them and see where the crossovers are. I then put all my other clothes in a suitcase under my bed so I can see and access the capsule easily.

  5. Ooh, I really love that floral blouse! I'm always so in awe of your capsule wardrobe projects. While I find myself wearing fewer and fewer items, a capsule wardrobe would be a much more conscious way to limit wasteful shopping. It would also be great motivation to donate what I no longer wear! Do keep us posted--I, too, am curious as to how long it takes to wear one piece 30 times. I know the answer for my maroon turtleneck at the very least--less than four months haha!

Sending you the best this holiday season!

    1. It hasn't stopped me spending but I do spend less. And it's certainly easier to identify items I don't wear so I can donate them.
I know my green skirt has been worn over 30 times, and will be worn many times over :)
