Over booked

Monday, April 08, 2013

Today I spent the day with my best friend. The combination of her crazy teaching hours and my freelance work taking up all my time, we don't see each other very often. Which is a shame because she is brilliant and we always have a great time when we get together.

Today consisted of shopping, lunch, and some more shopping. And several cups of tea.

One shop we found ourselves in was Waterstones. I love book shops and although I often buy my books from charity shops, car boot sales and, more often, Green Metropolis, I do like to support book shops on the high street. If we don't use them, they'll eventually disappear and I'll never again lose large chunks of time to wandering the shelves, flicking through books, and occasionally sniffing them.

Today was no exception, there was flicking. There was sniffing. And there was most definitely purchasing. Six books. SIX! When I already have all of these at home in my to-read pile.

Which begs the question - if I can't find the time to see my best friend, when am I going to find the time to read all of these?!

Still, it's a nice dilemma to have...

When do you read?

  1. I love looking at other people's books! Some there I really want to read, some I've read. Either way, what a lovely collection, I have jealousy at all those reading treats you have in store :)

    1. Exactly! It doesn't help that I'm not a fast reader.

  4. I love reading. I usually save them for my tube journeys and friday nights - I can never find myself going out on Friday's after work, so I'm usually in bed with a book.
I've just finished The Night Circus, which was brilliant. Need to figure out what to read next.

  7. Six books! I'm so jealous!

I bought 3 at the weekend but it was totally allowed because I got a giftcard for my birthday so those purchases lay outside the no book buying ban.

Man I love a good book sniff.

  9. One just needs the comfort of a big pile of books to read- I start to panic if mine goes down too much. And I love Waterstones too.
