Reading Challenge
Friday, December 15, 2017
I've set myself a little reading challenge for 2018 as part of my Day Zero Project. I want to read a book each month with the name of that month in the title, and I'm in need of your recommendations.
I have four books sorted already.
The Two Faces of January by Patricia Highsmith is on it's way to me via Father Christmas (aka my Dad, he has a white beard, so ...)
I found March by Geraldine Brooks in a charity shop earlier this year. This has a good review from Karen Joy Fowler, author of one of my favourite books The Jane Austen Book Club, so I have high hopes for this.
For August I have The Courtyard in August by Janette Griffiths. This has no reviews on Amazon and three stars on Goodreads, but again no reviews, so I'm not sure what to expect from this one. It sounds interesting.
Lastly, I saw on Instagram that Sophie had a book called December in her TBR pile and asked if I could borrow it. What did you think of it Sophie?
Do you have any month-in-the-title book recommendations (even if I they cover the months I already have)?
I'm looking forward to hunting for books in charity shops, I'd love to get as many as I can second hand.
Thank you!

I love Patricia Highsmith, The Two Faces of January is brilliant. The Talented Mr Ripley in book form is even better than the film - which I loved! xxx
ReplyDeleteA good book to start the challenge with then! I really enjoyed The Talented Mr Ripley film, so the book can go on my birthday list - I've got more than enough books to keep in occupied until then!
DeleteThanks Vix
xx
Aha, I have managed to comment! Box is now here now others have commented, it wasn't an option before. I'll reserve judgement on December until I finish 😊
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. Perhaps I should comment on my posts when I publish them 😆
DeleteI really like this idea!

Feel free to read along with me!
DeleteWhat a great challenge. I've recently read See You In September by Charity Norman and I really enjoyed it. http://jo-throughthekeyhole.blogspot.co.uk/2017/11/see-you-in-september.html
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be fun, and maybe I'll read some books I wouldn't ordinarily read. Thanks for the recommendation :)

The ones that spring to mind are Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim (and the re-telling of it Enchanted August by Brenda Bowen) and A Fortnight in September by RC Sheriff. I found all three enjoyable holiday reads.
ReplyDeleteThank you, that ticks off a few months!
Deleteyou have set yourself a real challenge here! i can't think of one book to help you out but am interested to see what you will be reading. I am going to challenge myself to read a book a month too.
ReplyDeleteI'll post about my final list I'm sure. I've had some good recommendations here and on Instagram. I'm just missing October and November but I'm sure an Amazon search will throw up something.
DeleteI hope to read a lot in the coming year, I've purchased waaaay too many books over 2017.

One Day in May by Catherine Alliott is a good read - light, but funny (from what I remember) x
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you said that as I picked it up in a charity shop this morning :)
DeleteYay!

I think this is a great challenge and I'll look forward to seeing your chosen reads over the year.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I bought a huge amount of books last year but just haven't had time to read them. In this house, we're out of bookshelves (again!) and have piles of books and books in boxes and so I declared that in 2018, I'm not buying any new books until we have moved house and I have more time to read them and the shelves to put them on... I made my last book purchases on new years eve and am already struggling with my self imposed ban, but I'm trying very hard!
Thank you for taking the time to comment x
