This Week #6
Friday, April 07, 2017Celebrating our Wedding Anniversary
Two years. It's gone by in a flash! Cotton is the traditional gift for a second anniversary, so predictably I bought Andy a shirt. But I also made him a cross stitch. I'd been planning to do this for months, but of course I left it to the last possible minute. I ended up bunking off work on our anniversary to finish and mount it before Andy got home.
Heavily influenced my Pinterest I plotted a chart and pinched my Mum's collection of silks to stitch with. It's not perfect but I'm happy with it. Andy seemed to like it too.
Of course I saw this as a perfect opportunity to wear my wedding dress again. The chill in the air had me reaching for my tweed jacket, but it didn't feel any less fabulous!
We opened cards, looked though our wedding album, and read our guest book. He gave me the biggest bunch of flowers, and then cooked supper.
The bunch of flowers was so big it had to be split between three vases, and with all the cards up, our lounge felt very much like it did just after the wedding. Lovely.
Making daisy chains with my niece
This should be done every spring. A daisy crown was made for me and I wore it all afternoon, answering only to 'Your Majesty'.
Pottering in the garden
It's that time of year when I start to pay attention to my much neglected garden. After a visit to a local garden centre to pick up a box shrub and a rather lovely metal yellow watering can (an absolute essential for any garden) I've planted some seeds, pruned a few shrubs, re-potted a few things, had a general tidy up and made a few plans for some new plants and shrubs. I can lose hours just doing bits and pieces, lost in my own little world, it's the best therapy there is.
Have you had a good week?

Love the cross stitch! Are the roses French knots? Yours look much neater than mine ever do!
ReplyDeleteThey are. I have to admit that I had to undo more than one to get them right.
DeleteThe cross stitch is beautiful! What a glorious idea!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty in your wedding dress, I love that you wear it! Also, that's great to look through your photos and guest book!xxx
Thanks Kezzie, I had such fun designing it and rushing to get it finished!!
DeleteThe dress was a little snug around the middle, I'll have to avoid the biscuits if I want to fit into it next year :)

Happy anniversary! The cross stitch is so lovely, I especially adore that you've included the cats!
ReplyDeleteIt's the very least I could do, they were utterly neglected on the day :)
DeleteCongratulations on your anniversary. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely pinching the daisy crown idea. What a great thing to do to welcome spring.
It was so enjoyable, the excitement of a four year old helped. I haven't made Daisy chains for the longest time x
DeleteHow sweet is that cross stitch! I also love it that you've been wearing your wedding dress again for the day. I haven't made a daisy chain/crown in ages. Now that's an idea ... xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased with how it turned out. I really enjoyed planning and stitching it.
DeleteWearing the dress is always a pleasure.
Happy anniversary! I love it when people take note of the traditional anniversary gifts. I've been doing it so far and we'll have been married four years in August which is fruit and flowers. I'm already thinking a grapevine might make a nice gift. Also, I think the tweed looks ace over your beautiful gown.
ReplyDeleteI hope to keep it up year after year, next year is leather so I'm not sure I'll be able to make anything by hand but we'll see!
DeleteHappy Anniversary! That cross stitch is pretty, the cats are a fab touch and I'm glad that the frock got it's annual outing. x
ReplyDeletethank you, and thank you, and so am I - I love that dress!
DeleteHappy anniversairy! The cross stitch is such a lovely present. Especially love the cats! We were given a cross stitch made by a friend for a wedding present and we still have it on our bedroom wall. I had never considered wearing my wedding dress again, shame, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit me now. Yours is beautiful and definitely deserves more than one wear.
ReplyDeleteThe cats seem to be a bit of a hit with everyone :)
DeleteMy dress often gets dragged out and worn, it's a great way to perk up a grey mood!
Thank you for taking the time to comment x
