#30Wears | Grey Slouchy Jumper
Tuesday, November 19, 2019I purchased this H&M jumper in a charity shop in April last year, knowing that it'd fit into my wardrobe with ease. A simple light grey jumper has featured in my wardrobe for as long as I can remember, in fact I currently have three jumpers that fit this description. It would've been four if I hadn't exercised some restraint on my last charity shopping trip.
It's worn all year round. It's slouchy fit makes it easy to sling on over almost anything, often being chucked on over summer dresses in the evenings, it's warm enough to be worn alone in spring, and perfect for layering in autumn and winter.
I've worn this 50 times now and it's still in reasonable condition - not bad for £4.75. It was second hand so it might've even been worn a few times before it was donated, but it was in very good condition when I purchased it, so I doubt it had been worn a lot.
I'm unsure how many wears I should expect from a high street item, is 50 a lot? Or do you think we should expect to wear things more? I'm interested to see how many more times this'll be worn before it wears out completely.
I've rambled on about the #30Wears campaign in other posts, so I haven't really explained it, but you can read more about it here if you wish.

A grey jumper is definitely something I associate with you! It's done very well! Welcome to the hall of fame for wears oh illustrious grey jumper! 50 wears is super!
ReplyDeleteI know grey can seem a bit boring but I really like it, always have. I'm impressed that this has worn so well. Is it showing signs of wear but it's still in good condition.

I think we *should* be able to expect a high street jumper to last 50 wears! People have become so used to not caring if things fall apart quickly because they were ridiculously cheap and can easily be replaced, but that's a terrible attitude to have and high street stores definitely should not be encouraging it!
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right. I'm looking forward to seeing how long my purchases last before they truly wear out, I think it'll be really interesting.

That grey jumper has definitely earned its keep. 50 wears is quite something in my book. I'm not sure if any of my clothes have been worn that much, not even 30 times, I guess, apart from my cardigans, which are on constant rotation in all seasons. My favourites have been easily worn 30 times, or more, and they weren't expensive or high end brands to begin with either. xxx
ReplyDeleteIt's been a real work horse. Since I've been keeping a tally I've realised just how long things can last, and I now know that things that I haven't worn for a while can find a new lease of life by teaming them with recently acquired items. Before so much of my spending, and discarding of clothes was unconscious, if I hadn't worn something for a while I'd simply pop it in a charity bag. I wouldn't question how much wear it had left, or how many times I'd worn it. It was all disposable, but my thoughts and actions have definitely changed.

That jumper certainly was a great charity shop buy. By the number of outings it's had it should be paying you by now! xxx
ReplyDeleteIf only that were possible, it would be an end to the idea of fast fashion!

Some items last for absolutely ever. I have some things which have been worn so often yet never show signs of ageing, even cheap stuff which you might expect to wear less well. Just goes to show that a label is pretty meaningless.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right. Now that some things in my wardrobe have hit 30 wears, I'm fascinated to see how many wears they will get to before becoming legitimately worn out.
