Sunday 19th May, 2019

8am
Tinker the Girl Cat is not happy about her early morning photo, she just wants me to stop faffing with the camera, and get up and feed her.

9am
In the past hour I’ve fed the cats, made a cuppa, emptied the dishwasher, emptied the kitchen bin, cleansed, toned and moisturised my face, got dressed, applied Sunday make up (mascara only), and packed up two eBay parcels. Now I’m at my computer to send files to a client. Tinker is helpfully sitting on my lap. Next, it’s breakfast!

10am
In the past hour I’ve filled in my time cards for the week, had breakfast (porridge), made another cuppa, and packed up a dress that just sold on eBay - reusing old packaging, it looks a mess but does the job. Today is going too fast!

11am
Oh happy days. Carpet moths discovered under the tv cabinet. Not. At. All. Impressed. I had to move the cabinet so I could rescue a bunny. A bit of Googling revealed that carpet moths like dark undisturbed places and as the tv cabinet is too heavy for me to move far on my own it doesn't often get moved. I found them under a large chest of drawers too, and in little patches behind some corner cabinets.

12pm
Lunch. I’ve been vacuuming for an hour. Apparently carpet moths hate being disturbed, so this is my only line of defense until I can work out what else can be done.

1pm
And so it continues...
This is not what I had planned for today. I'm gutted. I know that the bare patches of carpet will be hidden by furniture but I know they're there and now the carpet feels shabby and spoiled. It's so frustrating. The carpet must be seven years old now but it was good quality and still in good condition, I hadn't expected to replace it for a few years yet. We have other things that we need to spend our money on before we start to think about replacing carpets again. I know a home is never 'finished', that it evolves and changes but I did think we were finished, for now, in the lounge.

2pm
I’m done with vacuuming for now. I discovered the carpet moths in the dining room as well, but only in small patches. The downstairs of the house is in complete disarray but I’m taking a break for a cuppa. Andy will be pleased he’s been at work all day and missed my vacuuming extravaganza and grumpy mumbling. I've sworn a lot.

3pm
Getting on with some of the things I actually wanted to do today, overseen by my greenhouse cat, Socks. I've watered everything in the greenhouse, thinned out some seedlings, and sprayed some weeds.

4pm
I sat down for a moment in my greenhouse and Socks made himself comfortable. I'm stuck until further notice, and I can't say I'm in the least bit bothered by this fact.

5pm
As soon as I was released from beneath the boy cat I made a cuppa and headed to the sofa for a spot of knitting. Now I’m trapped under Tinker the girl cat.

6pm
Cooking supper. This is lamb mince with broccoli, which I always seem to cook on #photoanhour days (by coincidence rather than by design). The broccoli is a bit passed its best but I don’t want to waste it, and it won’t do us any harm.

The evening that followed was pretty standard. After supper Andy and I chatted about our days and then settled in for a few episodes of Game of Thrones (we're still on season 4, no spoilers!!), and then I went to bed early to read Ink by Alice Broadway.

I hope you had a lovely weekend. Thanks to Jane and Louisa for hosting #PhotoAnHour.

  1. Eeek, I hope you've managed to eradicate the carpet moths. I didn't know there was such a thing, are they the same kind of moths which will eat your woollen clothes, and God forbid wool stash, too?

    1. I think I've got rid of most of them. The eggs can survive a while so I'm vacuuming everyday at the moment, hauling the tv cabinet and chest of drawers will keep me fit! I'd never heard of them before either, Google tells me that they're attracted to the keratin in wool. Luckily my wool stash is upstairs and what was in the lounge looks unharmed, but I'm keeping it separate just in case.

  2. Tinker's annoyed little face in the first photo made me smile! Whoever said cats do not have facial expressions. Those carpet moths sound vile, I do hope you'll get rid of them. I'd never heard of them, and I'm so glad we don't have carpet. xxx

    1. She makes me smiles daily. Both of my cats have such different characters and can both make their feelings quite clear with their facial expressions!
The moths and larvae are disgusting, I think I'm winning the battle and have considered floorboards more than once in this past week!

    1. Thank you. The day was productive as intended, just not doing the things I intended to do!
