#30Wears | Gap Cords
Saturday, November 24, 2018The third item in my wardrobe to gain the #30Wears Badge of Honour is possibly one of the most boring items I own! They've only been seen on the blog once before in a capsule wardrobe montage.
These Gap boyfriend cords were purchased in March 2018 for just £6.49 from ebay. They're pre-loved.
I reach for these on days when I know I'm going to be bumbling around at home alone.
They're very comfortable and easy to wear, if a little on the long side. Living on a farm this means the hems are perpetually covered in mud. But I like long trousers, it's a preference that only can be attributed to growing up in the 80's when 'hoisties' were a real style no-no.
They're a little too big and they're more grey than the advertised khaki (I'm considering dying them) but they've earned the #30Wears Badge of Honour none-the-less, so they deserve their blog post.
I've worn these cords 42 times in total, on this occasion with a black jumper that I can guarantee has been worn more than 30 times (I don't know the exact number as I've only been keeping a tally since October last year), and a pair of suede boots that I'd forgotten about. I found them in a dark corner of the cupboard under the stairs, discovering them is like adding a new pair of boots to my collection.
It's easy to assume that when buying items such as these they will be worn 30 times or more, it's the skirts and dresses in my wardrobe that get worn less frequently. But that is changing, slowly.
I've rambled on about the #30Wears campaign in other posts, so you can read more here if you fancy.
Have you got any such workhorses in your wardrobe?

I think we all have that item of comfort in our wardrobe which is perfect for wearing around the house. I've got an old pair of jeans which are so comfortable, I must have worn them hundreds of times, but they've developed a hole this week. They're not worth patching now either, they've definitely seen better days, so I think this is the prompt I needed to remove them from the wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteOh I hate it when you have to say goodbye to an old favourite. I have a pair of jeans I've patched so many times I keep telling myself 'this is the last time' but then they develop another hole and I patch it. The day will come when they're more patch than denim, and maybe then I'll get rid of them. Maybe.

Hoisties... ha. We always said "budgies" or "your budgie's died" up in Northumberland. I remember people singing the "Budgie the little helicopter" theme at one girl whose trousers were a bit on the short side. They said something different when I lived down south but I don't remember what it was.
ReplyDeleteI am currently wearing a black jumper that must have been worn at least 30 times - I don't even remember how long I've owned it!
I love the colour of your scarf :-)
Isn't it funny that we all say different things? I used to live in dread of hoisties, even today I don't like them, unless they're meant to be short of course. Funny how these things stay with us.

Yes i have a denim skirt that comes out several times a week so must get at least 52 wears a year summer and with tights in winter but my most favourite items are scarves, (usually found in chazzas for a few quid:) they get worn to death, you can never have too many, what do you plan to wear over xmas when you are with family or going out?
ReplyDeleteI love a scarf too! I used to have more but found I only wore a small selection of them so gave a lot of them away. My collection is slowly growing again though, I can't help myself!
DeleteI haven't really thought about my Christmas outfits yet. I'd like to wear my 'day after' dress - the dress I wore the day after we got married - on Christmas Day but that depends on me getting it dry cleaned and I keep forgetting. No matter what I wear I'll be shopping my wardrobe, I have plenty of options, all of which don't get worn nearly enough!

I LOVE cords!!! Such a nice garment, especially in this grey shade!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't worn cords for years and just fancied a pair, I might have to keep an eye open for another pair, as I've noticed these are getting thin on the rear.

I actually love those cords! I've got a pair of jeans I must have worn at least 30 times, even if it has only featured on my blog once or twice, while out walking in Wales in the rain! And I'm sure most of my coats have also gained the 30 wears badge of honour. Or do coats not count? xxx
ReplyDeleteI love them, but they are quit boring.
DeleteOf course coats count, everything counts. It's all about wearing what we have as much as possible.

That's good going - I like a work horse like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what's my most worn item of clothing, many of my dresses are at least 10 years old and were vintage to start off with so with wears from both me and the previous owners they might be up to a couple of hundreds by now.
I love fabric dyeing- I'm currently doing the bath towels! x
I think it's good going considering they were purchased in March, I thought I'd had them a lot longer.
DeleteI love the thought of having something that's been worn hundreds of times, why do so many people think things are passed their best after a season? Madness.
I'd never thought of dying towels, do you dye using machine dye?
xx
Thank you for taking the time to comment x
