The Day of DIY and Eurovision

May 22nd 2021

6am Morning! Tinker the girl cat was slightly miffed at me interrupting her early morning interactions with the biggest hoomin.

7am My Mate. To be honest all I'd done since my last post was finish my cup of tea and make toast. I hoped the rest of my day would be slightly more productive…

8am My glamorous life. This spray bottle has now been reused about six times. I started using Ocean Saver sachets (I get them from Peace With The Wild) a while ago and don't think I'll ever go back.

9am New carpet in my office. It’s really satisfying to vacuum an empty square room. The light on the front is referred to in the marketing blurb as a ‘dust tracker’, which made me laugh at first but actually it really does help (and highlights just how grubby my carpets get!).

10am Curtains back up and it already felt more finished despite having no furniture.

11am Felt a little eleven o’clockish. These own brand chocolate oaties are actually better than chocolate HobNobs in my opinion. Well done Morrisons.

12pm Got stuck in to painting the spare room. If you ever think that decorating two rooms simultaneously is a good idea, let me tell you it isn’t. It does not cut down on the disruption in the least! The only upside is that it feels marvelous when both rooms are finished (which neither is, as yet...).

1pm Lunch. Cheese on toast - layer of ketchup, lots of cheese, sprinkling of oregano - perfection!

2pm Rollering (aka the best bit) almost done.

3pm Apparently there's an unwritten rule that when I sit down for a rest and a cuppa, Tinker the Girl Cat gets to have a rest too (she'd been asleep all morning).

4pm With as much DIY done as we could do, it was on to the more boring adult stuff, made more bearable by an audio book…

5pm Small snack and another cuppa

6pm Listen Hoomin, it MUST be dinner time by now?! I feed him and then I ventured into the garden to water, well, everything.

7pm Husband came home from work and cooked supper #win

8pm PJs, tea, feet up, Eurovision

9pm Enough Eurovision, bath, then bed. To be honest I find Eurovision a bit dull after the first hour, I still don't know who won this year. The only times I've ever watched it from start to finish was when friends and alcohol were involved - that's how Eurovision should be enjoyed. Stupid pandemic.

10pm Still working my way through this, bit by bit. I've since finished it and it'll be staying on my bookshelf to dip in and out of, it's a really interesting read.

11pm Lights out.

Thanks to Louisa for hosting, next Photo An Hour is June 12th, see you then?

  1. I watched the Eurovision briefly - wish I hadn't bothered as it felt like good time wasted - not like it was in the good old days. I have decorating to do - can't seem to get motivated so told myself I will only do it on bad weather days, we have good weather forecast so that's not next week then!

    1. hehe, you definitely need motivation for DIY, otherwise it seems to take forever. My bedroom took months to finish because my heart just wasn't in it.
When it comes to Eurovision I think if the commentator can't get through it without a glass or two of something alcoholic then we need to indulge too :)

  2. I agree re Eurovision! We used to go to this party with CBC's friends before they had kids and it was so much fun!
Well done on the decorating so far. You can definitely get it done in time! Dinner looked nice. CBC has actually made dinner 3 times this week which is unheard of (mainly because I just couldn't be bothered. I almost didn't do it last night but did in the end!

    1. Maybe next year will be better and we can do Eurovision the right way?
Decorating is almost finished, but curtains and lampshades are still needed. I'd like to get out and have a good charity shop rummage to see what I can find...
Dinner was delicious. Andy has been a star at cooking recently, it's lovely not to have to cook, but i still have to decide what we're eating and order the groceries :)

  3. I never watch Eurovision, it's not about which is the best song and many of them are just rubbish anyway. I always look to see how many points the UK got though, nil this year, not surprising!

    1. I didn't know we got nil! It really isn't surprising. I watch it to laugh at the bad, the weird, and the really terrible cheesy presenters, but it's pretty much lost it's appeal now.

    1. Yes! Join in! That would be lovely. I haven't been blogging much recently so these are the only posts I've done for a few months but they're always nice to look back on. And I love seeing how other people spend their days, even the ones that appear 'normal' and 'ordinary' can be lovely. It's the little moments that are captured that I enjoy.

  5. Oh my, you did have a busy day, what with vacuuming, decorating and ironing! I hate the disruption caused by decorating and really have to talk myself into it. The thought of doing two rooms at once makes me break out in hives. I'm craving Hobnobs and Dairy Milk now, some of our favourite treats when we're in the UK.
I agree on Eurovision, and didn't watch any of it, except to see how Belgium fared in the preselections. xxx

    1. I think the idea of decorating two rooms was that the disruption would only happen once, but it feels like twice the amount of disruption so the logic is somewhat flawed! But we've got the boring bit out of the way, it's all nice stuff like curtains and lampshades and wall hangings to sort now.
I couldn't live without Dairy Milk, but Belgium boasts some pretty spectacular choccies too!

  6. I love your feline companions!
Decorating two rooms? I'm glad you've got some help, one's bad enough!
I never watch the Eurovision, I think I lost interest when I was about 11 and discovered pop music! I sold a skirt to the lead singer of Brotherwood of Man at a festival a few years ago although someone had to tell me who she was! xxx

    1. Life wouldn't be the same without my little feline friends.
I've nearly finished the two rooms, it's not something I'll be attempting ever again.
Eurovision is a social thing for me, so without the social aspect it fell way below normal enjoyment levels.
