A Buyer's Archive | Feb '18
Wednesday, February 28, 2018For the third year running I'm taking part in A Buyer's Archive inspired by Elise, to keep track of my spending on clothes and accessories.
THIS YEAR
When I sat down to write this post I was convinced that I hadn't bought a single thing this month (for the first time ever), but a few things did sneak into my shopping bag.
Firstly, I went into town with a long list of chores on a particularly chilly day. I'd forgotten my gloves so I bought a pair in H&M for £3.00 (in the sale) to keep me warm. Nobody likes cold hands, and being cold makes me really grumpy.
On a second trip into town, I was killing some time before an appointment and found these heart print PJ bottoms in a charity shop, originally from Next. I don't normally buy PJs second hand but these had the original tags on, so I snapped them up for bargain £2.00. Some of my much loved and oft worn PJs are starting to look a tad shabby so these couldn't have presented themselves at a better time.
And lastly, it seems I have a bit of a thing for long grey cardigans. I liked the 3/4 length sleeves on this. It was £4.75 from my local charity shop, originally from F&F, it's super soft and perfect for spring, when the need for super cosy knits begins to wane a bit.
LAST YEAR
In February last year I purchased just one item. A maxi dress from ASOS that cost me £8.00 in the sale. I tried it on and loved it, hung it up, and waited for the sun to shine. But the next time I put it on I didn't like it. It's been waiting to go on ebay ever since then. I'm thinking I should try it on just one more time...
I've been splitting my purchases into two categories - wanted and needed. Most things seem to be falling into the former category, but I'm not surprised by this at all.
I'm hoping to buy more pre loved than new this year and the current tally stands at 3 pre loved vs 7 new. Not the best start, but there is time to turn it around.
Total for February £9.75
Total so far for 2018: £65.24
Total at this time last year: £55.98
Left of £600.00 budget: £534.76
What have you been buying this month?

You did do well in February - unlike me who was away for the first ten days of the month and still managed to acquire a shedload of stuff!
ReplyDeleteThat ASOS dress would look lovely layered up with a long sleeved top, thermal leggings and boots. I think you should keep it! xxx
I've been staying away from shops, it's the only way I can stop myself spending :) I won't do so well in March as I'm meeting Sophie for our bi-annual charity shop rummage.
DeleteI hadn't thought to layer the dress and wear it now... I'll experiment!
xx
You've been very good, Hazel! I bought far too much stuff, but all bar one item is pre-loved. They were all "want", though, as I needed some retail therapy. I'm with Vix that you should keep the Asos maxi, and layer it up. xxx
ReplyDeleteI'll try it, and see if it works. It is a nice dress...

All I bought this month was a couple of shirts and some smart trousers for work- being full time in an office for the first time ever necessitated a splurge!
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything office or meeting appropriate anymore! Nice for you to have such a good excuse to go shopping, hope you're enjoying work.

You did well! I have NOT done well and have ended up buying quite a few things this month! I think I need to stop!!!x
ReplyDeleteI think it's the time of year when I just don't spend much. The next few months is when it'll start to go wrong for me! I always say I need to buy less, to stop shopping, but it's so unlikely!

I bought a lot of things this month and actually a lot of them fell into the want category. I’m currently trying to give myself some time apart from shopping to really sit and decide what’s going on in my head! However still love these posts as always it’s nice to see other people logging what they buy, and knowing I’m not the only one that stil gives into wants!
ReplyDeleteLove everything you’ve bought tho month and the maxi from last year! Try it on go on give it one last go haha
I think most people buy more of what they want rather than need when it comes to clothes. Sitting here I can't think of a single thing that I can say I genuinely need, but I'll still go shopping. Failing giving up altogether the best we can do is buy second hand where possible and wear what we have. And if we're not wearing it - donate it!
DeleteI'm going to try the maxi today :)
