A Buyer's Archive | Jan '18
Wednesday, January 31, 2018For the third year running I'm taking part in A Buyer's Archive inspired by Elise, to keep track of my spending on clothes and accessories.
This crept up on me, I can not believe we're about to enter the second month of the year!
I purchased a few things this month and - spreadsheet nerds will like this - I added a column to my spreadsheet to state the reason for purchase.
Pack of 3 pants, needed, £14.00
Black long sleeve t-shirt, needed to replace an old one, £3.50
Vest top x 2, needed to replace old ones, buy one get on half price, £7.50
Blue night shirt, wanted it because it's a lovely material and looked really comfy, £8.00
Red floral skirt, my only January sale purchase. I wanted it because of it's prettiness. It was reduced to £18.00 from £40.00. I would not have paid full price for it. I knew I could slot it into my current capsule with ease, and I've worn it three times already.
Green Coast dress, my only charity shop purchase of the month, £4.49, and I bought it because I wanted it, it's such a lovely colour, and I'm still being drawn to colourful garments. It has a lovely waffle texture to the fabric and could only be improved with the addition of pockets.
So my need vs want purchases are about even this month. But if I'm going to buy more pre-loved than new this year I need to stay away from online shopping and get out into the charity shops instead. That said, I wouldn't normally buy nightwear second hand, and I'd never buy underwear second hand, so I can see why my new purchases are higher this month.
LAST YEAR
I bought myself a cardigan in the Sainsbury's sale, half price at £14.00. This gets worn most evenings at the moment. I pop it on over whatever I'm wearing for warmth - we don't turn the heating up in this house, we put on another layer instead.
The bra from Next (£22.00) was the first non wired bra I've owned since my teenage years and it's unbelievably comfy to wear. Unfortunately it's not easy to get on and off, it's an over-the-head affair and having wide shoulders makes it a bit of a wrestle to get it on and off. I've been known to sleep in it because I was too tired to put up that much of a fight. I noticed Next have something similar in their new range with a back fastening, so I might donate my current one and treat myself to this.
I also purchased a cute polka dot neckerchief from ebay for £4.99. I wore this a couple of times but I wasn't digging it so sold it at a carboot sale in the summer. I think I got £1 for it.
My final purchase was a denim jacket for £6.99. I'd been keeping a look out for one and this was perfect. I wore it a lot in the cooler months, it's a keeper, I love it.
Total for January £55.49
Total so far for 2018: £55.49
Total at this time last year: £47.98
Left of £600.00 budget: £544.51
What have you been buying this month?

I can see the benefits of your buyer's archive, especially when looking back one year later to see what has made the grade and what hasn't. I love how you have added the reason for purchase in your spreadsheet. I'm sure I'd have more wanted's than needed's ;-) I'm loving your floral skirt and the green waffle texture dress! xxx
ReplyDeleteI think by the end of the year I'll have far more wanted, I just can't resist something pretty.
DeleteI enjoy looking back over everything I've purchased, my spreadsheet goes back to 2013!
xx
You've just reminded me how badly I Need to buy new pants!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I was certainly in need of some new ones. I hadn't noticed how tatty some of my old ones had become!
DeleteOOoh, I like the green dress! I was doing so well on the not buying this month and then it all went to pot in the last week- fox items I have been admiring for months were bought when an extra 20% off code was emailed and about 4 Clara items have been acquired thanks to my lovely German Clara friend who managed to locate me four items second hand very reasonably on German Vinted!! She's a genius searcher!
ReplyDeleteAt least you waited and got a good deal on the fox items, and I know that Clara items can be silly prices so it'd be madness not to snap them up when you see them for a good price. I'll look forward to seeing your new cosplays.

just come back from the sales with a half price fatface jacket long overdue as my old one had strangely dropped all its stuffing to the bottom of the hem so not warm any more except round the knees! also a skirt and navy jumper from whitestuff with discount voucher, smart wear for work. A fabulous flippy hem navy silk skirt, in a chazza for a fiver to put away for Summer.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I read about your coat, the mental image was funny.
DeleteI bought my red skirt for the summer but I've worn it already with tights and layered long sleeve tops.
p.s. your green dress is beautiful, would look great with black patent boots and bag :)
ReplyDeletewith black patent boots is exactly how I imagined wearing it!

I had a VERY spendy January, so much so I don't even want to gather all my purchases together because I think I'd be horrified! My best buys were two pairs of jeans in the M&S sale for about £8 each - I've heard a lot about how great M&S jeans are so hopefully they'll turn out to be good buys.
ReplyDeleteI had a few months last year when I had to take a deep breath before listing everything. it's OK though, you can balance it out in February... ?
DeleteI love the skirt, I think that's really pretty. I need some new pants, I think I'll look for some next time I'm in M&S.
ReplyDeleteI'm always so surprised at how expensive pants are, there isn't a lot to them really.
DeleteNice blog...))))
ReplyDeleteThat green dress is lovely! I bet the colour really suits you x
ReplyDeleteThe denim jacket with the polka dot scarf is gorgeous! What a fantastic read on womens fashion!
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to comment x
