My Summer '17 Capsule | The Outfits

Saturday, October 07, 2017

My summer capsule wardrobe changed somewhat over the course of the season. Some items I decided I wouldn't wear, others became worn out, some pieces I didn't wear because the weather just wasn't up to scratch. So at the end of the three months my capsule looked very different from how it did at the start.

What I'd planned to wear

What I actually wore

My green skirt was worn frequently, it's definitely my favourite purchase so far this year, but it meant that my other skirts weren't worn as much as last year. And I hardly wore a dress at all.

I added a grey lace motif t-shirt and a gingham dress to the capsule, both of which I was given for my birthday, because I wanted to wear them immediately. I added a blue California motif t-shirt when my favourite grey one twisted a little more each time it was washed, until I had to admit it had become unwearable. I hate saying goodbye to a favourite piece of clothing, don't you?

Thanks to the weather I wore my jumpers more than I'd wanted to, and swapped my ankle grazing skinny jeans for my trusty bootcut jeans, and then added a pair of wide leg jeans having I found them for a bargain £2.00 in a charity shop.

So this capsule was swapped and changed more than any other, and in the end I wore fewer items than the original 36 picked out. But I loved all the outfits it combined to make and really enjoyed the capsule, despite that fact that all my colourful over-the-knee options where rendered unwearable by the weather.

Last year I found putting my autumn capsule together a bit tricky as the weather was still so nice in October, but this year it's going to be much easier, it'll be warm clothes all the way. Bring on the jumpers!

  1. After those initial few weeks in June we had a bit of a rubbish summer, didn't we? Thank goodness for our week in Greece so I could give my halterneck cotton maxis an airing.
I can't get excited about jumpers - I don't do knitwear- but I await your Winter wardrobe with interest! xxx

    1. Yes, the summer started out well and looked so promising.
My aversion to the cold makes liking jumpers a necessity! The woollier, chunkier the better, and if I can get an extra long sleeve I'm in heaven.

  2. I'll never tire of seeing that wonderful green skirt, just as you never seem to tire of wearing it. I'm glad to see that your capsule wardrobe is not set in stone, and you are prepared to change and add things. I'll be looking forward to seeing your autumn capsule! xxx

    1. I love it! It was great in the summer, but as the fabric is reasonable thick it'll be good for autumn too.
A capsule is meant to be fun and easy, which means it has to be flexible, especially when the weather let me down. The autumn capsule is underway :)

    1. When I find an outfit I like I do tend to wear it over and over again, so it can be a challenge to style things differently, I do enjoy it though. Since I've been blogging I think I've begun to enjoy my wardrobe more than ever, clothes can give such enjoyment.

  4. I have teeter-tottered around the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but the maximalist in me continues to make more and more head way :) I LOVE the concept and the visual that you provided on how you carried it out for the summer. The yellow and green skirt are awesome statement pieces!

    1. I played with the idea for years before finally giving it a go. I still have a lot of clothes but the capsule helps me to explore the potential of each item fully. It helps to weed out the items that aren't working, and means I wear the clothes I like best much more often.
I love the green and yellow skirts! The green one is a recent purchase but has been worn loads! The yellow maxi has been in every capsule since last summer, and although it needed to be dyed this summer after fading a lot, it's still one of my favourite pieces.
