Wish List for Year 41

Sunday, September 18, 2016

I've been pondering my goals for the next year for a little while, wondering how I'd like my life to look when I open my eyes the day I turn 42.

Firstly, I'd like to wake up in a bedroom that's been decorated within the past year.

With luck (or perhaps should I say 'if I get off my backside'), home improvements will be on going, without long periods of inactivity between each task.

I'd have read everything currently on my book shelves (allowing me to amass a huge book wish list in time for my birthday, and giving me a good excuse for lots of cosy afternoons spent reading).

My new company brand and website will have been done in time for the new financial year.

Anything that currently needs altering, mending, dry cleaning, or replacing will be altered, mended, dry cleaned, or replaced.

I'd have Marie Kondo'ed the ass out of my house.

(I should probably document the specifics of these to keep track of my progress)

I'll have this dairy-free thing sussed. Some foods that contain diary have really surprised me!

My floristry skills will be much improved.

I'd have remembered to harvest elderflowers at the right time, and made cordial. And gin.

My passport would've been used at least once, preferably twice.

And I'll have some great adventures to look back on.

I've read a lot recently about how September is the best time to make resolutions, January being too gloomy to make life changes. I agree that September brings a feeling of new beginnings with the start of a new school year, and after the lazy days of summer it feels like it's the perfect time to knuckle down and get shit done.

Fingers crossed for great year ahead!

  1. Good luck with these! I certainly find September to be a better time to make changes/set goals. 12 years as a teacher has me completely set on this as the start of a new year rather than the actual, calendar new year.

    1. It feels more logical to set new challenges now, and it coincides perfectly with my birthday ;)

  2. I like it! I feel like I should have some life goal type things going on but right now, as long as I have money, yarn and time to hang with my favourite people, I'm happy! :)

  4. That's a lovely photo, Hazel!
I loved reading your goals and ambitions. I'm not much of a planner, I'm afraid. I don't even like arranging to meet friends too far in advance, perhaps it comes from years of being trapped in a career I hated and the crushing feeling of knowing what i was going to do for weeks in advance. xxx

  5. Thanks Vix :)
Oh my goodness I'm the opposite, working freelance I have very unstructured days and so I like to have something to look forward too, also if I don't make plans time seems to go by and I look back and feel I could've done more with my time.

  6. I have the same with September feeling like the time for new beginnings. Apart from holidays, I am not very good with long-term planning, though. xxx

    1. I rarely know what I'm doing next week, let alone next month but writing a list helps me to see what I want to change, helps me identify what's important to me at that time. I rarely achieve everything on my lists!
