Only Once August. Day 1.

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Today is the first day of a new challenge. It felt a little bit like the first day back at school today as my 'uniform' was hung up last night ready for me to wear today. I've had this dress since February 2011, I altered it in February this year and today it get's it's first wear.

I have discovered that I couldn't wear this without hosiery. EVER. It only just stays decent when I sit down (perhaps I shouldn't have shortened after all?) and I've already wondered twice today if the gusset* of my tights had slipped below the hem of my dress (why can't tights just stay up?). That said, I do love this dress. I didn't think I'd ever wear it to work but with the cardigan belted over the top it seems to work. It's also the first time I've worn this belt, it's a recent charity shop find (£1.75).

Only Once August is a challenge be frugal and shop my wardrobe for the month of August, I'm focussing on things that have never been or are rarely worn. Feel free to join in. Sophie over at A Country Girl Does Norfolk, beating me to it, has already posted her first outfit.

I though about posting a weekly roundup but I may not be able to wait that long to post... I can see this becoming adhoc.

I do enjoy a challenge
Love

* I never, ever thought that I would use the word gusset on this blog.

  1. I'm not sure I will be able to keep up with the frugal part - after a no-spend challenge earlier in the year and losing a couple of dress sizes, I'm currently trying to add new things to my wardrobe which I can wear. But I do want to try and give soem of the never-yet worn things a chance before deciding should they stay or should they go, so I will be sort of joining in in that respect, and trying to wear some of the things which I've never worn. I've worn my first thing already, about to post it, and sadly I think it's the first thing on the 'to go' heap. xx

    1. Take part in any way you please. I did a similar thing last year and ended up with three bags of clothes to take to the charity shop.
I'll be keeping up with your progress, I do like a nose into the wardrobes of others :-) it's normally the should I, shouldn't I items that are the most interesting x

  3. Well it looks great on and I know exactly what you mean about tights not staying up.

  5. I love the dress! It's so pretty. I have EXACTLY the same issue with tights. I always have to do the really unclassy thing of pulling them up in public.

  6. Really clever way to turn a night dress into a day dress!
Love this outfit and the whole idea of this project =)
