Wearing It All Summer | Final Update

Saturday, October 10, 2020

The warm weather already seems like a dim and distant memory doesn't it? Thankfully the last few weeks of my Wearing It All Summer challenge had enough warm days for me to wear a few more items from my Summer wardrobe.

Week 10 saw two days wearing DIY clothes, but the other days I focused on items I hadn't yet worn. I'd been waiting for the weather to warm up and the week started out warm enough to wear a sleeveless shirt, and then a knee length dress. I'm keeping the dress but the shirt (kept twisting) and the jeans (just a tad too tight) have already been donated to charity.

Week 11 started with my very long wide leg trousers. Now that I'm thicker around the middle than when I purchased them they sit higher up so aren't as trip-hazard long, but they could still do with being taken up. Which I will do, along with some mending that's needed around the waistband (a result of treading on the too-long hem).

It was lovely to wear my paisley dress again, I used to wear this a lot and it always reminds me of our honeymoon. I don't like the grey tee paired with my new-to-me stripe skirt so it's an outfit that won't be repeated. The final few outfits of the week allowed me to wear my old black jumper a few more times. I keep thinking 'this will be too tatty to wear soon' but it just keeps going.

Week 12 The dresses were both birthday presents, I liked the red one paired with jeans when I wore it but now that I look at the photo I don't like it nearly as much. The final days of the week were deliciously warm and allowed me to wear a few of my summer tops - something I didn't think I'd be able to do. It was nice to be able to enjoy a few days of sunshine. I was aware that each sunny day could be the last one of the year, and spent time outside to enjoy it before autumn made it's presence felt.

The challenge got me out of my habit of wearing the same items on repeat, and it helped me slim down my wardrobe a little, which hopefully is something I can continue to do over the coming weeks. Whilst I'm not someone who rejoices in digging my jumpers out of storage, it will be nice to continue with the challenge wearing my cooler weather clothes.

  1. I must admit that I'm still in T-shirts and I'm not back into my hand knitted socks yet, I hate letting go of summer, but the weather is so much cooler now that it will happen any day soon.

    1. Sounds like the weather has been kinder to you, some days have felt like mid winter here recently. I hang onto summer for as long as I can, but my hatred of feeling cold always wins and out come the socks and woollens!

  2. I have really enjoyed wearing my holiday wardrobe at home this year and I have had fun experimenting. I like your red dress, that has a lot of mileage - with a denim or biker jacket and boots it could go a long way through Autumn :)

    1. That's exactly why I enjoy this challenge, it's fun to play with the contents of my wardrobe.
The red dress is so pretty, I have an aversion to hosiery so I don't wear many dresses in the colder months but I'm so keen to wear this dress again I know I'll be putting together an outfit soon.

  3. You're absolutely right: the warm weather does seem like a distant memory, having abruptly come to a halt and replaced by Autumn at its worst! I've already done most of my wardrobe changeoever! I'm loving those wide-legged trousers but I'm hearing you on the tripping over the hem thing. Your striped maxi will definitely be a keeper, I presume, and I'm loving that red dress too, although I do prefer it not worn over jeans. It's great that you were able to wear those Summer tops one last time in the final days of the month. I find it hard to let go of items, so I'm hearing you about that black jumper. I've got a pair of ankle boots that I'm expecting to expire soon, but I just cannot stop wearing them! xxx

    1. A more gentle transition would make it much easier to adapt.
I love the stripe maxi skirt, I won't wear it again until the spring but it'll be one of the first things out of winter hibernation, I'm sure. I love the red dress, I put it over jeans as it was a bit cooler than the day before but I don't think I'll wear that particular outfit again.
I get ridiculously attached to clothes.

  4. That red dress is lovely on you and the blue and white skirt is great, too. Those printed trousers are fab but I get a bit jittery about the length, I tripped up over too long trouser hems back in the 2000s and cut my knees so badly I've still got the scars! xxx

    1. Ouch! I have taken a tumble in these trousers before but I think that had more to do with the high wedges I was wearing to counteract the length, and I only ended up with grazes, nothing that left a scar. Ouch.

  5. I always love seeing your outfits- everything looks so elegant on you, even jeans!
I do so like that red dress- it looks pretty!
I also have an aversion to tights but I wear leggings with dresses now which means I wear them more!
I've still been wearing cooler clothes except for my walk yesterday where I wore a long sleeved top, sweatshirt, down light-weight jacket and a raincoat!

    1. Thank you Kezzie.
I have a bit of a thing for a red floral so the dress is already a favourite. I'm trying to work out how to wear it in cooler months but I'm currently failing. I tend to avoid dresses in autumn / winter because of my aversion to tights. I wear them if I have to but I tend to stick to trousers.
Sounds like you had a walk on the wild side!
