The Day I Had a Long Nap

February 20th, Photo An Hour day.

7am. This cat had been fed, don’t fall for his bullshit. Do cats ever get full up? They always seem to want more food (even when they have food in their bowl - that they eat when I'm not looking).

8am. After cleaning the kitchen, loading the dishwasher and enjoying my first cuppa of the day, I snuck back into bed for a while. This is what happens when you’ve been awake since 4am...

11am. I fell asleep. Two hours kip, thank you muchly. Tinker slept too and we felt the same way about waking up.

12pm. Husband was home for lunch, I had no idea what to have. In the end it was the lunch of champions - beans on toast.

1pm. I’d just finished watching the weekend repeat of Celebrity Best Home Cook, Tinker was more interested in sunning herself, she was almost too hot to touch (so I shoved my face into her tummy fur obviously).

3pm. Feet up, book in hand.

4pm. He thought it was teatime. It wasn't.

5pm. Sorting out my sewing basket so I could repair the lining, I turned my back for one second...

I stopped taking photos after this, the sewing basket didn't get mended. I couldn't be bothered, I'd had enough of the day, enough of lockdown, and enough of waking at 4am. I wouldn't say I was grumpy but I was definitely without enthusiasm.

We had supper and watched a few episodes of The West Wing before I sloped off to bed early to read a bit more of my Ruth Galloway mystery.

I woke up the next day, after a much better night's sleep, feeling rather chipper.

Thanks to Louisa for hosting.

  1. This post has made me really sleepy, Hazel ;-) It must be that photo of Tinker yawning!
Cats eh, you've got to envy them. They do seem to be either sleeping or eating all day long. Our new fur-baby certainly does, although she is fitting in lots of play time as well.
That sewing basket can wait another day :-) xxx

    1. There was a lot of sleeping, yawning, and resting going on :)
I was so pleased to see your new kitten on Instagram, I'll pop over to your blog for a proper introduction soon!

  2. What we call here a duvet day I think, doesn't happen often but when it does it's quite nice to do nothing, rest and recharge. Mollie never asks for food although she is always hungry when it arrives, she hasn't learned yet that we won't tease her or take her food away so eats in the conservatory with the door closed, otherwise she gets anxious and regurgitates - I wish she would climb up on my lap or bed - she will one day. Your little kitty is very pretty and with those big eyes I couldn't refuse him whatever he wanted! I often wake very early in the morning (guess you do because of hubby's work) years of shift work have messed my sleep pattern but I quite like creeping about when the house is quiet, sitting and watching the sun rise, eating breakfast far too early!

    1. Or a PJ day, although I did at least manage to get up and dressed.
I hope Mollie soon learns that you're not mean enough to tease her with her food. It makes you wonder why she thinks that :(
She'll jump up on your lap on day without warning, and then you'll never want to move again. Socks does make very good use of those big eyes of his, it's my fault that he's always after food, I so often give in and give him a little something.
I'm often up early, and like the stillness of the early morning but 4am is a little too early for me. 5am on what promises to be a warm sunny day is most enjoyable though.

  3. I don't think I've ever had a duvet day! My pesky cats wouldn't tolerate it! xxx

  4. Sometimes that is exactly what we need.
I am sitting here trying to work and have two dogs snoozing by my feet. Their lethargy is infectious.
    Have a lovely weekend. X

    1. And it was a Saturday on which I had no plans, so I went with it.
There is nothing lovelier than snoozing with pets, even if it's just them doing the snoozing, it's very relaxing. No wonder they claim that pet owners feel less stress.
Thnank you, hope you have a lovely weekend too!

  5. I love lazy days! You need them sometimes, especially if your body is working hard! :-)
Your cats always make me happy! By the way, I would love to read your Piers Torday books please (I think you mentioned that I could in a reply comment somewhere, but not sure where!) if you wouldn't mind lending them to me - I will pay the postage for them- but surely you want them back??? Happy to send them back if you want me to! I am almost finished with your Tom Hanks book and I am going to pass it on to Char if that is ok?! I'd love to send you a book too at some point!x

    1. I'll pop them in the post, and yes, please do pass the Tom Hanks to Char. I like books to be read numerous times, there's nothing sadder than a book that only gets read once - or worse - not at all!.

    2. I'm jumping on this reply to share in the enjoyment of books being passed along to be re-read. I love to do this and also love to be given books with a 'you've got to read this one is was great' recommendation. However, I gave C a book I absolutely loved and he whinged about it all the way through. Wasted on his poor taste, I shan't bother with that again.

    3. I'm just about to pass all my Ruth Galloway mysteries to my Mother-in-Law and it feels wonderful!
What was the book you gave to C to read? Clearly he has no idea about what makes good reading ;o)
