This old thing?

One of the oldest items in my wardrobe is a khaki skirt I bought from Next. I wore it a few weeks ago when visiting family, my sister-in-law commented on how much she liked it, saying she'd never seen it before. I was really surprised by this as I've had it for years. It's very likely that this skirt predates my husband!

It's made an appearance here more than once, the first time was June 2011. I have no idea why I thought that a khaki skirt teamed with a grey t-shirt, with my pale complexion was a good idea!

We live and learn.

It reappeared during my Wearing It All challenge in September 2011. A like it teamed with a black top, it's a much better way to wear it don't you think?

A year later I was wearing it with burgundy and tweed - a combination I have to say I loved! I think I need another jumper just like this one.

Despite wearing it a lot it didn't make another blog appearance until August '15. I tend to wear it with striped tops these days, I like the combination of texture and stripes.

In March '16 it featured in my first capsule wardrobe and it was worn more than ever, although I don't think I'll ever wear it with my cat jumper again *hides face in hands*. I do like it combined with orange though.

I don't wear it without tights so I put away for spring and summer to return in Autumn '16. Probably my favourite way to wear it is with my navy jumper and long sleeved t-shirt, I love it teamed with navy and the stripey top showing at the arms and waistband delight me.

Winter 2017

It's also in my current capsule too. This is one of my capsule wardrobe cheats - you see the pale blue top showing beneath my jumper? It's not in my capsule, it's one of my PJ vests, I have a variety of colours and often use them to add another layer, or a splash of colour to an outfit.

Which item have you owned the longest?

  1. You know I'm not totally sure what the oldest thing in my wardrobe is! There's a couple of jumpers I've had since uni so like 6 years or so? But when I moved to Leicester and had just split up with my boyfriend I decided to re invent myself so I'm not sure there's much that pre dates that! I'm going to have a look though

    1. This skirt has survived so many wardrobe culls, I'm glad I've still got it.
Let me know what your oldest item is!

  2. I love that skirt! I was worried that you were going to say it had undergone a tragedy and that your friend had chopped it up. You style it so well xx

  3. Hmmm, does my wedding dress count? That's boxed up in my wardrobe and it'll be 27 this year.

  4. While I was reading your post, even before your question at the end, I was thinking which was the item I'd had the longest. Must be either a pair of jeans or a tee shirt, I guess. The skirt is lovely, especially combined with the burgundy jumper and tweed jacket, but I like it with a striped top as well. xxx

  5. What a great buy that skirt was! I love it with the tweed blazer and burgundy jumper.
Most of my wardrobe is at least forty years old. I'm not sure what I've owned the longest. I did have a 1970s leather jacket I bought on my first charity shop date with Jon almost 25 years ago but I sold it last Summer as I hadn't worn it for ages! xxx

    1. I still have the tweed jacket but haven't worn it for an age (must remedy that). I hope the skirt is around for a long time yet.

I think the oldest item I own is the pale blue and white checked shirt which my Nan who died in 1997 gave me- it belonged to her and she must have given it to me in 1995!!!x

  7. What a lovely, versatile skirt. I have a simple, black and white striped skater dress from Topshop which is pretty old but which can be worn a number of ways - I love it.

  8. It's funny that you wouldn't wear it with the cat shirt again. That outfit and the one with the navy blazer are my favorites. I think the cat shirt adds a bit of personality to your outfit, paired with the blazer...It looks very pulled together with a splash of unique fun. I like it. That skirt is adorable, looks like a gray to me.

As far as the oldest item I own... That would be a cranberry cowl-neck sweater with a sparkle-rhinestone square. (It looks like a pin attached). That was gifted to me. It's a tad bit too fancy for me, but it is very comfortable and I wear it on holidays. It's lovely. I should wear it more but I have a very laid back/feminine-tomboy style.

    1. Hello, thanks for stopping by!
How funny that you like the one I don't. I'm wearing the cat jumper again today, only this time more casually with jeans. It's probably the quirkiest item of clothing I own, I do like it, just not with the skirt. Which does look a little grey in photos.
It's nice to have a few items that aren't your normal style, I recently bought a shirt from a fellow blogger, she was selling it because it she didn't feel comfortable in it (although I thought she looked fab). It's not my usual style either but I love it!
